Have your work lunches lost their inspiration? Do they leave you feeling hungry by mid-afternoon? Why not consider some high protein sandwich fillings for that taste explosion that will keep you going right into the evening.

Why high protein?

Quite simply, it’s good for you.

Protein is throughout our bodies. Protein from the food we eat builds and maintains our muscles, bones and skin. Proteins supply the amino acids that our bodies need.

Proteins from meat supply all of the amino acids our bodies can’t make themselves and are known as complete proteins.

Plant proteins are mostly incomplete and different types of plant proteins need to be eaten every day to get all of the amino acids that your body needs.

Protein is an important nutrient that keeps you feeling full and satisfied for longer. No more having to reach for that chocolate bar mid-afternoon.

What food types are high protein

Meeting your bodies protein needs is easily accomplished by eating a variety of foods. Protein from food comes from plant and animal sources such as

  • Lean meat – beef, lamb, pork
  • Poultry – chicken, turkey, duck
  • Eggs
  • Fish – Tuna, anchovy, sardines
  • Dairy – milk, cheese (Cottage Cheese especially), yoghurt (Greek especially)
  • Pulses, Beans and Legumes – lentils, chickpeas, split peas, beans, tofu
  • Nuts and Seeds – pumpkin seeds, almonds, hemp seeds, pistachios, sunflower seeds, flax seeds, sesame seeds, chia seeds, peanuts, cashews

The list above is not exhaustive.

Why not try a high protein sandwich fillings in your Stuffastick® baguette

It’s surprisingly easy to add that protein hit to your sandwich/baguette fillings. Peanut butter, ricotta cheese, hummus, beans, can easily be added to fillings to increase the protein.

Don’t forget that when you’re eating a stuffed baguette these fillings can also be eaten with a “wetter” filling without your hands and clothes stealing the prized content. Last nights curry – vegetable or meat mixed with some nuts or seeds is full of protein and healthy too with lean or no meat – though not recommended between two slices of bread unless you like to eat on the messier side.

There are lots of recipe ideas you can find throughout the web. A simple search for high protein sandwich fillings or high protein wrap fillings will give you plenty of ideas.

Here are some of the best that I found – all are perfect for your stuffed baguettes.

My Go-To Tuna Wrap by The Healthy Foodie

It’s the tuna in this recipe that packs the protein punch with the walnuts giving it a double hit. Did you know that walnuts are also an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acid? Omega-3 can reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer and is lacking in most diets.

Black Bean Wrap filling by Veggie Primer

Black beans are a very good source of plant-based protein. With this recipe, your stuffed baguette will be ready in minutes and great to eat throughout the day. Just add Black Beans to other ingredients to make high protein sandwich fillings.

Grilled Lemon Chicken Flatbread Wraps by The Cozy Apron

Chicken breast is a great source of protein and blends nicely with the garlic sauce. The creamy sauce is perfect for a stuffed baguette. You could even try replacing the garlic sauce with greek yoghurt for some extra grams of protein.

Those are just a few ideas to get you started. As you can see plant, meat or fish – lip-smacking fillings can be easily made in minutes.
